What is pastoral counseling?
Pastoral counseling moves beyond the
support or encouragement a religious congregation can offer by
providing psychologically sound therapies that weave in the religious and
spiritual dimension. Pastoral counseling is done in the spirit of
shepherding, the original Latin meaning of “pastor”. ICS counselors
help people cope with their needs, conflicts, destructive behaviors, upsetting
feelings, resentments and hurts. The pastoral
counselor gently contains and redirects these struggles – shepherds them
– toward pastures of safety, wisdom and serenity. Such counseling helps
people not become lost among the world’s steep cliffs, wolves and bad
weather -- metaphors for the conflicts inside oneself, in one’s
relationships, and with the external world.

much does it cost? Do you accept insurance?
Our goal is to provide quality,
affordable counseling to everyone. Fees are based on a sliding
scale, balancing the financial ability of our clients to pay, resources
available through grants and donations, and our need to cover
expenses as a not-for-profit service. The services of many of our
staff are covered by insurance. Fees and insurance will be discussed
with the appointments cordinator.
